Opening the Advent Calendars! Day 17

It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. As such, our Advent Calendars are starting to look rather bare… Nevertheless, there are some cracking drams yet to be discovered still hidden behind those doors.

The Whisky Advent Calendar – #WhiskyAdvent

Talisker 10 Year Old: Aged for a minimum of 10 years in American oak casks, this classic Island dram from the Isle of Skye opens up with big, peaty, barley bonfire smoke notes, before settling into orchard fruit and a toasted malty, sugary finish.

The Bourbon Advent Calendar – #WhiskeyAdvent

Bourbon 17.png

Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon: Rebel Yell is not just any old whiskey! It was one of the first wheated bourbon recipes ever created, way back in 1849. Packed with sultanas, nectarine, prune and vanilla notes, this historic bourbon is still made according to the original recipe, with wheat, corn and malted barley.

The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar – #WhiskyAdvent

Bowmore 15 Year Old Darkest: Matured in American bourbon barrels and finished for three years in oloroso sherry butts to give it a gloriously warm finish, Bowmore 15 Year Old Darkest is a dram and a half. To accentuate its rich fruitiness and trademark smokiness, Bowmore suggests enjoying it with some rich dark chocolate.

The American Whiskey Advent Calendar – #WhiskeyAdvent

Bernheim Original: The first straight wheat whiskey to launch on the US market, Bernheim Original is bottled at seven years of age, and is a full, sweet dram that develops into a long and slightly dry finish packed with toasted spices.

The Japanese Whisky Advent Calendar – #WhiskyAdvent

White Oak Akashi Single Malt: Hold on tight, we’re going on a whisky adventure! This no-age-statement single malt release from the Akashi range, produced by White Oak in Hyogo, represents somewhat unchartered territory. Creamy and delicious.

It's a fruity little  number, with a whole host of gorgeous vanilla notes from its ex-bourbon cask. Some of you will discover a sherried single malt: Blair Athol 21 Year Old 1995 (cask 11788) - Old Particular. This one was distilled in November 1995 and bottled in June 2017. Both are downright delicious.
